SIA Security Top-Up Training
Security Industry Association (SIA) Top-Up Training has been a legal requirement for all practising security personnel since 1 October 2021. This practical course will equip you with the latest knowledge to recognise and manage the risks and challenges of current-day security provisions.
Course content includes post-pandemic security management and circumventing potential acts of terrorism.
The SIA Security Top-Up licence will cost £139 (plus VAT) and is a face-to-face 2-day course. Choose your preferred dates and venues on application.
Course overview
The SIA Top-Up Training is an interactive course covering first aid techniques and guidance in handling counterterrorism, emergencies and security-risk incidents.
Security focussed content introduces the knowledge and skills required to identify, avoid or manage everyday risks, safety measures and interventions. Exercises will demonstrate how to manage workplace environments and public-facing situations effectively and confidently and minimise personal risk.

Who is the course for?
Course Eligibility
A good command of the English language is required. All participants must hold the Level 3 Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) and Action Counters Terrorism (ACT) qualifications before enrolling.
CPS can organise the appropriate training as a combined learning package if you do not have these qualifications.

The SIA Security Top-Up training is delivered as a face-to-face course. Choose preferred dates and venues on application.
Duration
The face-to-face course will last for approximately 2 days.
How long is the course valid?
Following completion of the course, your new licence will be valid for three years.
At the end of the three years, you will be required to sit the course again if you choose to continue working in the same role.
How is it assesed?
The SIA Security Top-Up licence is evaluated by three exams and a practical physical intervention assessment.
Training Outcome
At the end of the course, learners will have a comprehensive understanding of the following:
- Health & Safety law
- Avoiding and managing common security risks
- Counterterrorism safety measures and intervention
- Performing safely in your job role and asking for advice
- How your role fits into the security of the workplace.
- Participants who successfully pass the SIA Top Up Training will be eligible to renew their three-year SIA licence.
